Kon-Tiki by Thor Heyerdahl

Did the ancestors of the Polonesians come from South America? Thor thinks so and sets out on a raft with his Norwegian buddies to see if it's possible. The result is a fantastic true story that the reader, more than once, will speculate on the sanity of the adventurers, but also learn a lot. The book is very well written and is positively fish-slapping fun. I picked this up yesterday simply because it was in a nice collectors edition and cheap, I'm usually not one for adventure tales and it was only because of the author's theory that I decided to read it right away. Their adventure out on the open ocean is a mix of the expected and totally unexpected, pick up a copy and see how Thor and friends made their way across the pacific on a square-sailed raft.
