Contrapaso. The Children of Others by Teresa Valero
5.0
NetGalley and the publisher provided me with a review copy.
Contrapaso: The Children of Others is a crime thriller graphic novel set in Francoist Spain in 1956. Two journalists end up investigating a series of murders, against the wishes of some powerful folks and even the government.
The art is incredibly well done, and while I'm generally not a crime/thriller/mystery reader, the pacing, characterization, and the plot itself were enough for me not only to buy into the graphic novel but to devour it in two sittings about a week apart.
I went in without expectations, primarily because I don't often read this genre, and this graphic novel blew me away.
Valero crafted a masterpiece here.
