Death Note: Black Edition, Vol. 2 by Tsugumi Ohba
3.0
⠀⠀✧ • ° . ◦ *⠀┊ three and a half stars.
⠀i hate doing this but damn... i can’t give it a four star rating. i really want to. i feel like this could be a four / five star series. this volume just wasn’t it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀” you can’t ever win if you’re
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ always on the defensive. to
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ win, you have to attack. “
⠀things i really enjoyed:
❥ ┊the premise.
⠀⠀⠀⠀as seen in the last review, i love the premise. this deserves to be noted especially since we continue to discover more about the death note & its features.
❥ ┊an addition to the cast.
⠀⠀⠀⠀see, i’m split her. i loved seeing a female character (misa) becoming more involved in with this story but... stay tuned for my gripes about it. we need more *cough* STRONG, INDEPENDENT FEMALES *cough* in media.
❥ ┊L.
⠀⠀⠀⠀i really love L. i just do. it’s as simple as that. i feel for him. when he said light was his first friend i almost teared up. he deserves more. yeah, maybe i’m a sappy bitch but i want him and light to be frIENDS OKAY IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?
⠀things i didn’t enjoy:
❥ ┊the pacing.
⠀⠀⠀⠀this is mainly an issue with the third volume but the pacing was weird. i couldn’t wait to be done with it because it seemed as if it drug on for the longest time. i’m starting to get annoyed with the meetings in the hotel rooms too be honest.
❥ ┊misa’s personality / characterization.
⠀⠀⠀⠀listen. i‘m not one to bitch about characters following annoying stereotypes because they’re stereotypes for a reason? but i feel like i need to comment on this one. the way misa was written was Not It. she devoted herself to light almost immediately. this is when you have to realize that some characters are meant to be this way. it’s not great and it’s pretty annoying but it’s also whatever.
❥ ┊the ending (fourth volume).
⠀⠀⠀⠀i’m sure this ending was supposed to be earth shattering and my socks were supposed to be knocked off but... i still have socks on & the earth is stable. not only was it anticlimactic but it got a little confusing within the last twenty some pages.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀overall, this just didn’t excite me like the first one did. i’m still going to continue with this series but after finishing this i don’t feel like i need / want to. it was just okay. nothing more & nothing less.
