The Lyre of Orpheus by Robertson Davies
4.0
This is the final story in the Cornish Trilogy from Robertson Davies. The same cast of characters from the first two books appear along with a cast of others. I liked the characters a lot from this book. The plot was ok. This felt more of a sequel to The Rebel Angels than Whats Bred in the Bone. I think the second book in the series is the best of all three. It is more linear than say this book. There are two negative things I found in this book. The first is that I didn't care for all of the stuff about staging which makes up the last 100 pages of the book. The second thing is that I really like Davies and his books, but he always seems to veer away from male homosexuality in his books. He very clearly did this in the last book. I am not someone that needs to have gay stories in everything I read but a book about staging an opera and no gay men, come on. It just surprises me. I guess he seems intelligent and worldly, I just expected a bit more from Davies in that respect. With that said, I would give this one a 3.8/5.
