Magic Burns by Ilona Andrews
5.0
In Magic Burns, Kate Daniels has taken up the job as a liaison for the Order and Mercenary Guild offered to her at the end of the previous book. There's been a sudden increase in shifts of magic and it's only an hour or so between shifts instead of half the day. This signals that a flare is on the way. When magic normally surges it's like a flood, but when a flare happens it's like a tsunami. Anything magic get's a surge of power causing infinite amount of trouble for anyone in law enforcement. Kate gets involved with a couple of orphans, one a young girl with a missing mother. She decides to help the young girl find her mother, but the mother is missing with some unusual circumstances. The woman was involved with a coven with some strange rituals that make no sense to Kate. Suddenly monsters start coming after the young girl and Kate discovers that the orphan's mother was involved with Morrigan. This goddess means bad news and with a flare on it's way Kate is once again in over her head.
I really enjoyed this book. Kate was her usual snarky self, Curren once again makes an appearance, and the book was almost non-stop action from the beginning. What's not to love?
