"I love you. I love you so much."
And there it was. Those words hadn't existed behind his lips before now. Not ever. Not like this. He'd heard other people say them. People didn't stop saying those words in books and poems and songs, but he'd never understood why or how they got there until now. It was because they couldn't stop themselves. Those words weren't even words at all, not really, but a force that had been given a phrase for one simple reason. They were the only way to get everything that was now burning a hole right through Peter, out.

This book was exactly what I needed right now. I was kind of going through a reading slump, not feeling anything right now and so I picked this up, because something pulled me in when I saw it, waiting for me to pick it up.
I was immediately hooked! It was so sweet! Both Peter and Cooper pining for each other for literal YEARS and both boys like "No way he even knows I exist..." And then 1 thing happens and Cooper has to save Peter and well, it was an immediate connection for both of them. Their story in this book, even though you don't have any explicit hot scenes or any graphic scenes for that matter, their story is so sweet and heartfelt and sincere, I felt warm and fuzzy inside the entire time.
I have to give the author a huge cudos too, for the perfect balance between a sweet story, and the terror and fear that comes with the rest of the story. The zombies, Peter's fear, Cooper helps him manage. The changes, what is true and what not, Peter and Cooper stay loyal to each other. Whatever is swung at them, they are there for each other, and BOY do they need to work together to survive.
This book was a true masterpiece and I can't wait to dive into the second book Timberdark, which is screaming at me now 😂 This was definitely a great debut novel and I can only say, that if the author is gonna write more like that, he will become a new guaranteed buy author for me!
