I really liked a lot of things about this novel. But. Also, I didn't… this one is hard for me.
I love love love the atmosphere that surrounds this story. The Gothic vibes, the spooky undertones, I could not get enough. The parasites that were infecting these people was also so interesting, and like forget the tws about it, I wanted more of that.
More of that and less of the smut. It didn't work for me. I guess the teacher-student relationship just wasn't my thing because I didn't love their romance, nor did I really feel like it was a romance. They weren't, and then they were. Probably because he watched her video god.knows how many times.
I also didn't like the end. I hate when a twist comes out of absolutely nowhere. I want a hint once or twice throughout the book, otherwise it just feels like a cop out. And I guess it wasn't really, but I needed more leading up to it. The whole whabam here I am thing didn't work for me.
I also could have done with more of the secret society. Honestly, this book had so, so much going for it. Personally, if we would have focused more on the parasites and the secret society and less on Lilia, I think I would have swooned for this one. But, I didn't love her or her life. And I really didn't like the addition of - or the twisty connection to - one certain character I won't name. It didn't feel like it fit.
