Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane

5.0

“Ask Again, yes” is a book that will stay with me for a long time. Reading this book struck so many chords for me; about life, circumstance, love, family, human nature, forgiveness and much more.

I found myself turning the pages and picturing the characters so vividly. I felt their pain, joy, love, loss, frustration, and forgiveness so deeply. Whether or not the reader has experienced any of the situations that arise in this book, there is a relatability that cannot be denied.

So much of the writing moved me. Specifically the mention of the question is this all life is? At times, I have found myself asking that same question. This book explores all that life is. It is complicated and easy and frustrating and fulfilling and unfair and unspoken and disappointing and filled with love and so much more.

A quote from the book stuck with me and sums it up perfectly for me: “...that a memory is a fact that’s been dyed and trimmed and rinsed so many times that it comes out looking almost unrecognizable to anyone else that was in the room...” The idea that time, perspective and experience change our memories.
