The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson
So nice to sink my teeth into a nice, beefy, epic fantasy book the way I used to do as a teenager. I’m still not sure how I managed to read through this behemoth of a book in less than a week, but my phone informs me that I was averaging 4 hours a day reading for most of it, with an 8-hour sprint on a Sunday to finish it before the work week began. I do so love Sanderson’s writing. Great worldbuilding, great characters, fascinating magic system, and leaves me chomping at the bit for the rest of the series. Unsurprisingly, my favourite character was Kaladin – I loved pretty much all of his chapters, while I sometimes grew bored with the Adolin / Dalinar / Shallan chapters. (Not so much that I’d stop reading, obviously, but enough that I just wanted to get back to Kaladin.) Of course, I’ve always been a sucker for “diamond in the rough claws their way up from the nothing and becomes a beloved hero” stories. I also really liked the interludes and was fascinated by the Szeth chapters. Definitely looking forward to the next book!
