It was so obvious that a straight man wrote this book, and I don’t mean that in a good way. I tried to like this, I really did. I read Brandon Sanderson’s books (and loved them) and was impressed with how he wrote women characters, and I was hoping that I would see that here too. Unfortunately, I did not. This book just sexualized women WAY TOO MUCH. And not even human women! Literally all female beings. Feminine-presenting creatures that were literally described using it/it’s pronouns WERE SEXUALIZED???

Now, I get how all of this may not be an issue for lots of people, because it’s so normalized for people who read books primarily by straight men, but for me, it was hard to distract myself from how uncomfortable it made me. (And before anyone asks, I just want to make this clear: the sexualization was not the only reason why DNFed this. It was a contributing factor, but this book had other issues.)
