Very skillfully written,I don't know how Howe managed to keep tabs on all that and synthesize it into a cohesive narrative.

I can away with new found respect for the Whigs and an awareness of just how old some of the problems and conversations that plague the US are.

I would have liked to have seen a little more on immigration and life in the cities.
