Shadows of Self by Brandon Sanderson
3.0
— it was a 2.5☆ for majority of the book, but the ending boosted it up
honestly, era 2 is just not for me :( i don't like the Western vibe, i generally dislike detective/crime stories, i'm not fond of the humour (this entire book is filled with that Shallan/Lift type of humour and it actually makes me wanna die), i'm not as emotionally invested with the characters as i'd like to be
i didn't hate all of it, though. i enjoyed all of the little connections to the original trilogy, and i reallly liked the political aspect to this book (sanderson in his marx & engels era <3). i feel like the last 75ish pages were quite reminiscent of the tone/atmosphere of the original mistborn trilogy, and it was so nostalgic for me
