Love Stories by Trent Dalton
5.0
I thought it was fitting that I review Love Stories by Trent Dalton during #nonfictionnovember as it’s currently my favourite non-fiction book – I just adored it!
The premise for the book is simple; Trent is bequeathed an old typewriter from his friend’s Mum who passed away in 2021 and he decides he is going to use it to sit in Brisbane city (the corner of Albert & Adelaide Streets to be exact!) with a sign saying “Sentimental writer collecting love stories. Do you have one to share?”. The result is the most beautiful, heartbreaking, uplifting and life affirming collection of personal love stories from the strangers that stop to share with him plus Trent’s own personal musings on love and how it has shaped his life.
As always with his books, the writing is so beautiful which I find a real joy to immerse myself in, but I also listened to half of this book on audiobook which Trent himself narrates. And I found this was my preferred way of experiencing the book as it really added something extra for me - hearing it being read the way the author intended it to be.
This is book is a celebration of love in all it forms and made me reflect on how lucky I am to have the people I love and those who love me in my life. I have already bought 2 extra copies to give to friends and I’m sure there will be more gifting of this one in the future!
