The Babysitter by Phoebe Morgan

3.0

The book starts in a very promising way. It captures the readers attention. It's intriguing.
A woman, that was babysitting, gets killed and the baby disappears. A guy that was vacationing with his family in France, is arrested as being suspected to have committed the murder.

So we're on to a good start. But then there are 200 pages of nothing. Nothing happens or hardly anything. And then, in the last 15-20 pages of the book, a bunch of things happen all at once. It didn't feel like a proper ending, it felt like a rushed ending. It gave me the impression that the editors asked to have the book in hand the next day and the author rushed to write an ending.

There is no explanation about how they caught the killer. Until that moment, the author spends time describing useless interrogation transcripts (interrogation of the same person over and over), twitter extracts with people's opinion (as if anyone cares) and so on.

When big shocking things are happening in the end, there is literally no description of how the shock of it all is assimilated by the victims.

Not a bad book. A 2.5 stars as the writing is good.
