this was a fun read but it had the usual albeit less problematic problems of a white woman writing from the point of view of minority characters. you could tell she genuinely did put care into them but the characters still just felt underdeveloped and surface level a lot of the time and the indigenous characters we meet we don’t really get any pov on, so they feel like background characters used to move the plot forward. i think this was a really promising book and i would read another one in this universe but it definitely could have used a more thorough world and character building to really make it shine.
