I couldn't give 3,5 stars so I gave four. This novel is a fine fanfic: well written to stand on its own if the reader doesn't know Austen's work. Definitely and clearly not an Austen novel. I haven't (at least for now) read anything else from P. D. James so I can't comment on whether her approach is typical for her or not, but I think if there wouldn't have been the murder, the story would've been probably better. Because now for real, who didn't imagine that Elizabeth and Darcy lived happily ever after?
