Fangirl Down by Tessa Bailey

2.0

Short review:

This started off so great I decided it is going to be one of my favorite reads of 2024! But then… things got steamy.

Long review:

I really liked grumpy Wells Whitaker, who was only kind to his fangirl, Josephine Doyle. I adored how strong our FMC, Josephine, was. Their connection and the way they opened up to each other had me hooked from the start. It began so well, and I really wished it would have stayed a slow burn rather than leaning so heavily into a transactional, spice-centered relationship.

Unfortunately, the intimate scenes felt awkward, maybe even a bit cringey. Wells’s behavior during these moments came across as creepy, which is rare for me to feel during a romance read. Once they began sleeping together, it seemed like the story lost its substance. The two breakups felt like filler rather than meaningful plot points.

I also rarely comment on narrators, but the third-person POV wasn’t my favorite. And the voice for Josephine grated on me—it was honestly hard to listen to at times.

Overall, I was disappointed, to say the least.
