We Were Eight Years in Power: An American Tragedy by Ta-Nehisi Coates

4.0

Really interesting framework for this collection of essays. Coates traces his own evolution of thought (as well as his personal and professional development) alongside the historically significant presidency of Barack Obama. Also provides him with an opportunity to critique his own work (for example, not more thoroughly addressing Bill Cosby’s allegations of sexual assault in an essay about his ideology), something rare in the fields of academia and publishing.
