The Line That Held Us by David Joy

4.0

Type of read: Commuter Read.

What made me pick it up: I don't even remember how this one initially fell on my TBR list but I know the description got me. I also really like the typography and minimal graphics used on the cover art.

Overall rating: Holy crap. 'The Line That Held Us' is the part thriller, part love story you didn't know you needed in your life. I'm so happy I stumbled across this book. How far would you go to avenge the death of a loved one? How much would you give to keep your family safe? Who would you hurt to know there would be no more hurt for those you love? We find out what that means for both Dwayne and Calvin as they navigate impossible questions and life-changing decisions. Again, HOLY CRAP this was good. Hands down one of the better books I've read recently. I enjoyed 'The Line That Held Us' as an audiobook and I have to add that MacLeod Andrews is an absolutely phenomenal narrator. They did an amazing job with the characters, tone, pace, and ultimately overall feel of the book. I would 100% recommend the audio version with Andrews narration. I'd say this is definitely closer to 4.5 stars on my list and I would not hesitate to pick up more books from David Joy in the future.

Reader's Note: 'The Line That Held Us' includes graphic descriptions of death, decay, and aggression. This book is absolutely not for the faint of stomach.
