Perihelion by Antony Johnston, Justin Greenwood
4.0
On Perihelion, one of the biggest festival days - and biggest days for crime on the Fuse, Klem and Dietrich find themselves pulled into multiple homicides and other investigations. The story is fast-paced and gripping, switching back and forth between different storylines and characters and giving a sense of how chaotic the experience is. Justin Greenwood's art is excellent in this volume, bringing a ton of character into ancillary characters and even just random members of the crowd.
My only issues with this volume were the ways that women murdered by a serial killer were objectified, the attitude towards sex workers, and the use of homophobic slurs that didn't really seem necessary to illustrate particular character dynamics. I get that The Fuse is not trying to present a utopia, but ultimately it is a pretty diverse world and I'd hope that at least our heroes like Klem and Dietrich would have a more nuanced attitude towards sex workers.
