Missoula: Rape and the Justice System in a College Town by Jon Krakauer

This book is devastating. It is also one of the hardest books I've ever read. By this I do not mean that the book was difficult to understand--on the contrary, even the most technical legal language was laid out in terms that even a layperson could understand.
Rather, I mean difficult in the emotional sense. This book is a trigger warning personified, even for people who have not experienced horrific trauma. If you have emotions you will find this book difficult to finish.
But I would not let the weight of the subject matter deter you from reading it, if you think you can handle it. I learned so much from this book. It wasn't pleasant to learn, but I feel less disillusioned and more empowered having read it through.
I think this book is necessary, I think reading it is essential to initiating a conversation about rape culture, and I recommend it to everyone.
