i'm so disappointed :(((( i was really looking forward to this and i just cannot get into it.  it's as if the author is holding me at arm's length from the characters, and i want to love them!!  but i have no idea who they are or what drives them, other than what i'm explicitly told.  the world is incredible, and it's almost strong enough to get me through reading the rest of it, but i just cannot get past this distance from characters i know i'd completely connect with, given half a chance.
