Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed

5.0

"There's no way to know what makes one thing happen and not another. What leads to what. What destroys what. What causes what to flourish or die or take another course."

I'll admit that when I began reading this book, I almost regretted buying it. I learned of it through the reboot of Gilmore Girls (I became a fan recently and binge-watched the original season and then the reboot).

Cheryl seemed reckless to me. She had allowed a very tragic event in her life to send her into a spiral. I went back and forth between wanting to hug her and tell her it would be okay and wanting to slap the shit out of her and ask her "what are you DOING?!"

By the end of the book I was crying for the umpteenth time. My emotions climbed every mountain and descended into every valley with her. She may have made some pretty reckless decisions, and destroyed parts of her life unnecessarily, but I learned by the end that it had to be. It was her path to finding herself. I have nothing but the deepest sense of admiration for Cheryl. She pushed through every obstacle and made it to the other side.

You go, Cheryl! I hope I get to meet you one day.
