The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma by Bessel van der Kolk

5.0

This is an excellent introduction to trauma and how to treat PTSD. I loved seeing the development of the PTSD diagnosis and how treatment of trauma has changed over the past several decades. The author also includes so much research - his own and other relevant work - that helps inform how trauma affects people and how best to treat trauma. And the treatment was one of the best parts of this book - the author goes in-depth on various treatments for trauma (from therapy to theatre to neurofeedback). There's a lot to think about and a lot to consider when working with clients and I love that this author offered so many possible solutions and detailed his own experiences with them in addition to tons of research on their effectiveness. Excited to review this book more in the future.
