The Quiche of Death by M.C. Beaton
3.0
I was first drawn into the world of Agatha Raisin thanks to the Sky One series starring Ashley Jensen and Matthew McCooey. The books, however, are very different from the TV show. Agatha is portrayed as an older woman in her early fifties who takes early-retirement and decides to resettle in the picturesque Cotswold village of Carsley.
Agatha Raisin is brusque, honest to a fault and doesn't take no for an answer. This blunt personality has been honed from her very many years working in the busy life of PR (personal relations), in the heart of London. I really enjoyed this version of Agatha, and her blundering attempt to 'fit in' and win over the charismatic yet strangely aloof James Lacey.
Would I say that this is an amazing book? No. But it was definitely a fun, light-hearted and comical cosy-mystery novel, and inspired me to continue with the series, to see just what lies in store for Agatha next.
Originally, I marked this as 4 stars but after careful consideration, and going over my notes, I decided to drop it down to three. This is mainly due to the fact that Goodreads fails to offer a half star grading system.
