Outer Dark by Cormac McCarthy
5.0
I'm constantly just blown away by how gripping, addicting and overpowering everything I read by Cormac is. It's rare that you get an author that's so timeless and so important and revered and all that but at the same time so accessible. yeah he does use some weird rare words here and there that you could look up if you want to, and has a unique way of writing dialogue and deals with really dark and disturbing subjects. But personally that all adds up to something fresh and exciting and vivid as all hell and heaven yet still more grounded in real earthly human Southern life than anything else I've ever read besides like the Bible or Faulkner (obviously two of his big inspirations but he's still totally always doing his own thing). RIP Thee Fucking God I'll probably end up reading all his books eventually
