The Weight of Blood by Tiffany D. Jackson

Loved it so much and I'm kicking myself a little bit for waiting so long to read it. I've never read Carrie, nor have I watched any adaptations (to my knowledge), but of course I knew the general gist of it beforehand.

I really enjoyed the inclusion of podcast transcriptions and witness statements. They made it so much more real to me. I think the inclusion of racism was done really well, although it was very, very heavy-handed. At first I was confused why someone being biracial would be such a big deal in 2014, but then the setting was revealed to be one of those ultra-racist towns that are still stuck in the 1960s. You will encounter all the widely used excuses white people make to convince you they're not racist, and you will seethe, knowing that there are people and places that are still like this.
