The Fox and the Dryad by Kellen Graves
5.0
Should be adapted into a real ballet performance!
4.7 Stars. Kellen Graves has a way of writing emotional stories that match the magic, romance, and victories of Irish legends—and in this case, ballet romances—while injecting modern twists and fantastic queer characters into the stories.
This story returned the queerness that originally filled Irish/Fae mythology, while using modern lingo to create a story of LGBTQ+ excellence. This was my first book with a protagonist using he/they pronouns interchangeably, which was neat to see! I loved how many non-binary characters filled the scenes too!
I absolutely adored the characters, particularly Malric. He was arrogant and cocky but always ride-or-die for Briar, which made for the cutest scenes. Briar was also darling, bratty, and of course, perfect.
I personally would’ve loved to see more easter eggs for Rowan Blood, but maybe that would’ve given too many spoilers since it’s set in the future (I think)… I just need Rowan Blood Volume 3 ASAP!!
I also would’ve liked more explanation on Briar’s necklace working and not working with the veil, and hear Malric at the end explain his past actions/words to Briar more. But that’s my personal preference.
Great book, great universe, would recommend.
Spice: 3/5
