Tarnished Are the Stars by Rosiee Thor

3.0

**3.5 stars**

I received an uncorrected proof from YALL Fest 2019. ****

"Tarnished are the Stars" is a definitely sci-fi novel. Set in the far future, the human race is on Earth Adjacent, trying to rebuild after technology ended the original Earth. This is the only part of the book I didn't like - the fact that it was a different world, and yet, Rosiee Thor didn't make it 3-D. It felt flat and didn't give us enough information about the new Earth besides that tech is banned and the government, but even that was vague.

I liked the characters (except why do books always have to end with two of the three characters falling in love!?). Anna was fiery and passionate (I want to be like her, childish as it may sound). Eliza was secretive, calm, and powerful (I mean, she knew how to use a weapon). Nathaniel was a scaredy-cat but was taught he didn't need praise or approval from his father. All of them had nice character arcs (they all overcame their challenges).

Overall, I liked the book, but I'm not a real big fan of Sci-Fi (I love YA Fantasy though). I probably won't read it again, but it is worth time to read at least one time.
