I loved the messaging of this book: one must always choose to learn how to love themselves first!! This was such a beautiful book, Yinka is so relatable, I love her!! I love so many of the characters in this book, their personalities just jumped off the pages and stuck with me. Here are some random thoughts I wrote down in my notes as I read:
- I love auntie Blessing and the type of woman she represents! An unapologetic independent woman, she’s open about having had focused on her career and loving her life as it is ❤️
- Yinka is very relatable. Struggling with the balance of using her career as a clutch but also feeling the pressures of expectations to be in a serious relationship at her age. The insecurities she feels are very real, acknowledging she doesn’t want to feel that way but sometimes she can’t help it.
- I’m about half way through, and I don’t really like Alex yet. Something about him seems off. I much rather like the way Derek treats Yinka!
- I love Nana!! “I am who I am” , she’s so uplifting to Yinka about loving herself as she is and she tells her what I wish I can tell Yinka about changing herself for a man— you shouldn’t be doing that to yourself girl! The man should love you for who you are!
- Donovan!!!! 🤩
