The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo
3.0
I really liked the writing in this one. At times I found myself thinking to write down a line or a quote one of the characters said. The historical setting felt unique to me, and themes of womanhood, religion and magic were explored in an interesting way. I loved the way magic worked-- or didn't work, in this world.
Personally though, there were some parts the story went into a direction that didn't align with what I wished from this book. Sometimes the author also decided to focus more on a part of a scene or character than the one I would've liked to see. It also may be due to the fact I listened to the audiobook for parts, but the pacing and perspective changes weren't always clear to me.
