Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas

5.0

Another short review for this one, because I don't want to spoil anything!

I'm truly loving where Aelin's story is going. The new characters that are constantly being introduced, the dynamics that are evolving and devolving between characters, and the villains (or maybe they're not so bad?) are really keeping the story going for me.

This had an ending that surprised me, with certain battles coming to a close, but new ones on the horizon. I love that Aelin is embracing her queenly self, and the people she is holding close to her are a great mix of personalities and abilities.

My only issue with the ending of this book, and I'm going to try really hard not to spoil anything here, is the ableist attitude the author took on. One character ends up a little worse for wear after the ending battle, and ends up paralyzed. Maas, in my mind, took too much of a negative attitude with this, almost making it out like the character would've been useless had they lost the use of their limbs. And "thankfully" someone was able to immediately heal them so they only lost the use of their legs, but "don't worry because we're off to the best healers in the land so you can be good as new and still help us fight this war"
