Dead of Spring by Colette Rhodes
2.0
I could not connect with this book no matter how much I tried. I usually really enjoy Hades and Persephone retellings. I love seeing Persephone come into her role as the Queen of the Underworld. I love watching her fall in love with Hades. But this book didn't check those boxes for me.
Kore was such a hollow character. I never felt anything from her. Her anger at being kidnapped wasn't there. Her frustration at being stuck in the underworld was non-existent. She kept begging to go home, but I felt no emotion behind any of her words. I also couldn't tell you when they started falling in love. She had zero time for Hades and continuously sent him away. Then, all of a sudden, she's telling him she loves him.
Hades' character was just as bad. I didn't see the point to any of his pov chapters as it never seemed to add anything to the story. Other than to remind us every now and then that he loves Kore, and that's why he kidnapped her. Insert eye roll here.
There's zero action in this book. Nothing happens. This Hades and Persephone “falling in love”. But without any real emotion or story line.
