The writing had strange breaks that tried to be really deep but just weren't. Non spoiler quote from page 46 " Once upon a time, the world was full of dreams, despite its heartache, and love, despite its brokenness."  This book also had a serious case of telling instead of showing with the main characters.  The plot just wasn't enticing enough to make up for the characters.
