This was an Amazon First Reads that I got ages ago. I've come to expect these books to not be very good, but this one pleasantly surprised me! It's a found family story with elements of romance and danger woven throughout to keep it exciting. It's the perfect mix of fantasy and historical fiction with really sweet characters that are easy to fall in love with. The beginning was a bit slow, but once the book got going, I didn't want to put it down.

There is a second one coming out in April of 2023, I believe, and I've yet to decide if I'm looking forward to it or dreading it, lol! I can see continuing the character relationships being really fun, but the book was so nicely wrapped up that I'm not sure what the conflict would be, and I worry that it will end up feeling unnecessary. I guess we'll find out in April. Either way, though, this one was excellent!
