Good Material by Dolly Alderton
emotional
5.0
Dolly Alderton made me cry again. And I loved it.
I'm astounded by the craft of this one. I'll be honest the emotional punch didn't really come until we got Jen's point of view. Until that point, it was a lot of secondhand anxiety and frustration for how Andy was dealing with the breakup and the decisions he was making.
The pivot to Jen though was just so good. It added so many layers of complexity and heart and heartbreakingness to the actions we just saw Andy doing for like 80% of the book. All the things he was wondering about, and especially all the things he never had to wonder about.
