Prophet Song by Paul Lynch
4.0
4.5/5
I was given this book by a colleague of mine but wasn't up to reading it before. I made a slow start too. The writing style - although it contributed to the sense of chaos and overwhelm at the end of the novel - does take some getting used to.
The story itself is a must-read for anyone who goes and votes without thinking about who they're voting for. It really illustrates that we're all just a few steps away from being in a terrible situation.
In the end, I loved the way Lynch writes about an extremely terrifying subject in both a very poetic and very direct way. Makes you realize that this might not be a dystopian novel after all, but rather a work of non-fiction.
Edit: one event really stuck with me. The fact that Eilish thinks about cleaning the cooker hood (because that's what she's always putting off) when her house has just been targeted by an air strike... I don't know why this seems so relatable. Made me grin and almost cry at the same time.
