A story about a black and Jewish community that find themselves and their lives tangled in unexpected ways. I absolutely loved this book. I trusted James McBride to unfurl the story wherever it would go and he more than delivered. These characters - Miss Chona, Nate, Addie, and Dodo will stick with me for a long time. I was so sad when this book ended. I’m overwhelmed by the amount of care and community and willingness to sacrifice and do for others that’s on display in this book. Both heartbreaking and hopeful. A masterpiece.
