The Edible Woman by Margaret Atwood

4.0

a complex and slightly strange book about femininity, patriarchy, identity and capitalism. under capitalism we are all consumers of commodities, products and of each other. we are the raw material to be consumed by the society.

the book explores the way Marian navigates her life under these structures, and how these structures warp her reality. it follows her rebellion against these structures and defiance of gender roles through metaphors of food and clothing. the secondary characters are fun and strange, meant to both build up these structures and attempt to tear them down as well.
