I don't know what I was expecting out of this story, but wow. I felt so many emotions for all of the characters in this story. Ansel was a killer and not a good man. He had a horrible start to life, which really made me feel for him, but didn't excuse him from the terrible things he did as a teen and grown man. His part was also told in 2nd person, which was different.
Hearing the perspectives of Ansel from his mother, his wife's twin sister, and the detective who caught him felt so real on so many levels. I had to remind myself that this was fiction. It was a heartbreaking experience all the way around, but the author wrote it in a beautiful and accessible way.
I think if you're a true crime "fan" and like to learn why people do the things they do from a psychological standpoint, you'd eat this book up! Check it out.
