I absolutely LOVED this novel.
The thing with Ever is, she's not sad because she's fat. She's sad because there's this little voice inside her head that tells her she's a bad person, that she's not worth anybody's time. Anyone who has ever had self-esteem issues has heard that voice. It's telling you you're worthless, dumb, fat... It's telling you people would be better off without you. I have heard that voice times and times again, probably like many other people.
This novel reminds you that this voice is not real. It's all in your head and you can beat it. Ever doesn't start loving herself because she looses weight. She starts loving herself because she realizes that voice is wrong. I wish this book were mandatory in school, for so many kids and teens struggle with self-esteem issues.
Donna Cooper tackled the issue in the best way possible, in my eyes. You don't need to be fat to relate to this book. You don't need to have self-esteem issues to enjoy this book. But you should take away a lesson from this book: you are not what that little voice inside your head tells you. You can be whoever you want, no matter your fears.
