Monkey High!, Volume 2 by Shouko Akira

4.0

"I had fun, but not because of the quiz show... It was because I was with you. I don't want any misunderstandings about that, dummy."

The second volume of Monkey High continued well from the first. I found the story continued to have good plots without over the top drama to keep it interesting. I appreciate that this manga is enjoyable without needing to create lots of drama to give is sustenance. The simplistic yet entertaining plot is greatly appreciated. I am enjoying this story so much!

I liked that the side characters sort of became more individualised, but I still would like more from them. I want them to get their own story soon as well.

Macharu continued to be loyal to Haruna when she really needed it. I like that their relationship is now being tested in a realistic way with realistic reactions from the two. I feel so happy whenever I think about the two of them and I really like that they feel real. There's some depth to that aspect. And I loved that insight was provided slowly into Haruna's life and more clues into her past. I love that it's keeping me interested to know more! Although I find her father kind of a bit hard to believe sometimes. I hope more is given into his character as the story progresses.

The romance was also just as great as in the first volume. "I hate it when you cry and I don't know about it. So that makes your problem my problem. That's why I can't leave you alone." Macharu is so loveable, and I love how well he and Haruna fit together. I love these types of romance stories where the characters not only have chemistry but depth to their relationship. Their personalities are the opposite but she needs someone like him in her life and he too needs someone like her. It's so sweet and very well thought out. I am rooting for this couple right until the end!

I found the art continued to be nice. There were some great two page spreads with shading that added to the atmosphere. Haruna looked so beautiful in some scenes.

I can't wait to keep reading about this monkey mountain!

"It's my very own loveable monkey mountain... And... My baby monkey."
