Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood

5.0

I usually describe this as “1984 and Brave New World had a baby and it was actually good.” This is one of Atwood’s most prescient works, with interesting, engaging characters and an addictive plot. It feels increasingly prophetic as we move into a new decade, and it’s the perfect dystopian fiction for a post-Cold War world. The focus on capitalism and media is particularly cutting and real, and as always, Atwood’s prose is a delight.
