This was a fun, engaging, tension-filled novel about a group of clueless desperate people thinking they're playing a reality show game to win some money, but are in fact, in terrible danger.
The descriptions in this book are something else. I could feel the heat, the scorching sun, the frustration of long waiting while hidden away. It was easy to understand the characters and their motivation. And I loved the way tension was constantly built, how readers always saw just enough to know more than the characters, to see the dangers they don't, and how that made it all the more interesting to read. The mystery part was fun to read about, and it had some of my favorite elements I can't talk about because they're spoilers. You just need to know this book is really fun, has a great cast of characters, including angry lesbian and tender lesbian finding each other. This book should get a series adaptation. Seven or eight episodes, I think it would be great. Especially since it's written in a very visual way.
If you liked this try Cirque Berserk by Jessica Guess - a small press novella that has a similar premise but with very different approach and twist.
Audiobook is also amazing and Emma Galvin as a narrator gives the book the urgency and energy it deserves.
