The Angel of Indian Lake by Stephen Graham Jones
4.0
“Sometimes lies are the only thing that can keep you moving forward; lies and the most wishful thinking. I’m full of both.”
The gripping conclusion to The Indian Lake Trilogy which I think the author would reasonably consider his magnum opus. While My Heart Is a Chainsaw dove deep into the structure of the slasher genre and what surviving one would do to a troubled teen. Then Don’t Fear the Reaper explored how damaged and haunted those survivors would be years later, the emblematic final girl Jade returning to town just in time to be re-traumatized. The Angel of Indian Lake wraps up the story by confronting what a community does with someone like Jade. What should a small, insular town like Proofrock do with someone who keeps coming back even though violence and death consistently follow close behind her?
