There Is No Ethan: How Three Women Caught America's Biggest Catfish by Anna Akbari

informative lighthearted slow-paced

3.0

While it was interesting to consider the motivations behind someone who would catfish these women in this way, I ultimately found the book to drag a bit, and I didn’t care for the writing style very much. Additionally, I can appreciate that anyone can be fooled and taken in by the right scam, but the way these three women continued to engage with the perpetrator after uncovering everything, it all just felt petty and dumb, especially for women who we are continuously told are so intelligent. I also found the description of the real life meeting between the author and the man whose photos were being used online as Ethan to be awkward and unnecessary.
