Eating to Extinction: The World's Rarest Foods and Why We Need to Save Them by Dan Saladino

informative reflective slow-paced

3.75

This book has lots of great information and stories about foods that are disappearing and which have disappeared. It’s championing those that are working hard to save biodiversity which is big and important work.

It’s also, a bit repetitive. Each chapter follows the same pattern and for each food brought up, there’s a message about how it’s disappearing and how urgent the situation is. Towards the end, I just had run out of steam. Like if you hear about one awful thing, it’s easy to care about it. We have to do something! If you hear about 100 awful things, that’s overwhelming and it’s hard to feel like any one person can make a difference.

Having said that, the book is the stories of many people who have chosen one things to care about and save, so maybe we don’t have to do everything, maybe we only have to do one thing.
