Elements of Fiction Writing - Description by Monica Wood
3.0
Learned a few new things from this book. Elements of writing that Monica Wood calls "telling detail" and "pathetic fallacy". Lots of good examples and suggestions on how to use description effectively. Some were not so brilliant - which could be down to my taste. She almost lost me right at the end with a truly dreadful bit of writing as example of how to write sensory description (again - maybe matter of taste) but saved the day, and the book, with chapter Nine, a glossary of hints and tips. Very thought-provoking. Only giving it 3 stars because it dedicated a sizable chunk of itself to POV as an expression of descriptive writing (fair enough) but failed to add much to the tons of material out there about the subject. In fact it was a bit flimsy. Useful read though and short enough.
