Fantastic! 10/10, no notes. A (presumably) lightly fictionalised memoir of a queer South Asian Muslim, structured around stories in the Qur'an, and how she relates them to her life. I love how she uses her connection to scripture to guide her life, as well as how the unfolding of her life leads more deeply understanding and empathising with the sacred texts. The book follows a roughly chronological path, but with a lot of back and forth and overlap as it follows topics more than linear time. I really liked how insightful Lamya is, as well as her gentleness with herself and her flaws, and the time it takes to grow, especially when you're recovering from trauma. Absolutely loved this, and will probably read it again. You should read it too.
