The Anthropocene Reviewed: Essays on a Human-Centered Planet by John Green

emotional hopeful inspiring medium-paced

5.0

When I downloaded this audiobook I decided to do something I rarely do: I slowed down the reading pace to what I consider "slow" and I made sure to take my time listening to this. Almost every minute I listened to John Green talk about this human-centered planet of ours, I was out for a walk, looking at stunning sunsets or the moon, or enjoying a fresh breeze or a gentle downpour. In The Anthropocene Reviewed, John Green is talking about a whole bunch of different topics, from air-conditioning to Diet Dr. Pepper to sunsets, and he rates every topic on a 5 star scale. But the kick is that in almost every essay, regardless of the original topic, he manages to draw in the human condition, the experience of loneliness, hopelessness and hope. Always hope. He has written a non-fiction essay collection on the importance of having hope and being alive, and I loved every second of it. What a magical book. What a magical way to view life. As John Green himself said: "What a blessing, to be earth loving earth." I give listening to The Anthropocene Reviewed while going for walks 5 stars.
